Social Mobilization for Social Policy: building the policy-making of state and society in the Arab region

This project is led by Rana Jawad of the University of Bath and is funded by the Carnegie Foundation in New York. The project’s desired long-term outcomes are:

  1. Expansion of the understanding by key policy stakeholders of social protection and social policy to incorporate rights-based approaches and social policy as an investment in human capital as opposed to a public cost
  2. Policy commitment by senior policy-stakeholders to rights-based social policy approaches in the 6 countries through for example, new draft plans in key policy areas
  3. Increased policy dialogue and accountability between civil society and government officials

To achieve these aims, the project has defined the following outputs:

  • A full scale review and analysis of social policy in the Arab region to identity successful models and best practice for improving social welfare in the region (including the publication of Policy Innovation Case Studies or PICS).
